Call me Snake.

Mon Sep 7, 2009, 11:51 AM
Just a quick blerb...after two years here, I'm escaping LA. Heading south for San Diego and parts less...Los Angelino. I never DID quite fit the vibe of this city.

It means a day of boxing and unboxing, but I'll be able to set up my full workstation again (oh wacom, how I've missed you), and I'll be able to devote some real time to art again.

God I hate moving...but it's going to be worth it in a few days.

Thanks for such a helpful response :D

I really like character work, environments aren't really something I get excited about. I'm also keen on vehicles.

I'll make note of the sites you suggested, thanks again for your help.

No worries at all.

In the case of Privateer Press, it just happened by accident. They have a fan-art section on their forums, and I posted a 3D model I did of one of the pieces for their Warmachine game. Later they contacted me when they needed artists, based on the fan-work I'd put up.

Specifically looking for work, I'd suggest keeping an eye on the industry sites...especially Gamasutra.com and CGSociety.com. Also take every opportunity to post your work on the web...never know who will see it.

Gamedevmap.com is another good resource.

Hope that helps. What's your interest? Characters or Environments? Or something more specialized?

oh, also, sorry to double post, but I was meaning to ask.
How did you find the work for Monsterpocalypse? did you apply? were you sought out? I don't want to pry or anything, I'd just like some insight into the whole 'finding work' side of the 3d stuff. I have to look for an apprenticeship relatively soon.

if you don't want to divulge stuff or whatever, I totally understand. it's just nice to meet someone I can ask face to face (so to speak, lol)

Cool, will have to take a look :) it's great work, anyway.
